42 Gorillas of Rwanda Extension Venture on a gorilla expedition deep in the heart of Rwanda's mist-shrouded forests. The chance to witness the gentle majesty of mountain gorillas up close in their own environment is undoubtedly one of the greatest wildlife encounters to be had. Travelmarvel offers a unique four-day journey that begins in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, and travels across the peaks of the Volcanoes National Park on a gorilla adventure of a lifetime. VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK Home to one third of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, Volcanoes National Park is made up of a chain of extinct and active volcanoes that snakes along the border of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This park protects the Rwandan side of the Virungas volcanoes, and offers a safe passage to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Thick bamboo forests carpet the mountains, affording intrepid travellers perfect vantage points to get an up-close look at these endangered primates. Led by experienced and knowledgeable trackers, you'll learn why Dr Dian Fossey was enticed to spend 18 years in this remote part of the world. MOUNTAIN GORILLA VIEW LODGE Nestling in the foothills of the Sabyinyo Volcano, your lodge is close to the entrance of the Volcanoes National Park. Each cottage has ensuite facilities, a small lounge with a fireplace and a private verandah. GORILLAS IN THE MIST The trek through Rwanda's misty, dense forest and traversing steep ravines is an achievement fully rewarded by the magical experience of observing gorillas for an hour in their natural setting. In fact, for many visitors this close encounter is truly life-changing. Despite their size, these powerful primates are very peaceful, and are dependent on conservation efforts to survive.
