This evening, meet fellow travellers and your Travelmarvel Tour Director at a Welcome Reception. Stay (Three Nights): Cape Town, Southern Sun Waterfront Hotel. Day 2. Cape Town. Begin your day with a cableway ride to the top of Table Mountain for ocean views, then return for a city tour. The afternoon is at your leisure. Enhance Your Journey: perhaps choose from one of our optional experiences. Take a ferry ride to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned; enjoy an African Heritage Tour; buy handicrafts on a Cape Town shopping tour or enjoy the colourful floral displays at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (see page 44 for further details). A Taste of South Africa – enjoy African drumming before a Welcome Dinner of African and Cape Malay cuisine. BD Day 3. Cape Town, Cape Peninsula. Like a Local – discover the breathtaking Cape Peninsula during a full-day tour today. This scenic journey takes you along Chapman's Peak Drive to Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Continue to historic Simon's Town for a delicious seafood lunch. Named after Simon Van Der Stel, an early governor of the Dutch settlement, who arrived in the Cape in 1679, Simon's Town is South Africa's third oldest settlement. This pretty coastal town is also South Africa's main naval base and consists of lovely Victorian buildings. Later, see penguins at Boulders Beach, before returning to Cape Town to enjoy the evening at leisure. BL Day 4. Cape Town, Garden Route, Oudtshoorn. Straddling the southern coast of South Africa, the 200-kilometre-long Garden Route derives its name from the stunning and ecologically diverse vegetation that typifies the region. This morning, travel through grasslands, wetlands, forests and mountainous regions, passing the numerous lagoons, lakes and rivers that dot the coastline. Along the way, stop to discover the subterranean formations of the Cango Caves. Then continue to the town of Oudtshoorn, for a dinner of regional produce including ostrich. Stay: Oudtshoorn, Queen's Hotel.
