The first life-sized warriors of the Terracotta
Army were unearthed by farmers near Xi'an,
one of China's oldest cities, in 1974. Excavations
have revealed around 8000 earthenware
warriors, horses, chariots, and even an entire
mausoleum – all created and buried to honour
an ancient emperor who ruled 800 years ago.
