Four Seasons Gresham Palace Hotel Budapest, Hungary When the Gresham Palace was built in 1906, it was one of the finest Art Nouveau or Secessionist buildings in the world. It first housed a life-insurance company, then a prestige residence then communist-era housing and now, a luxury 179-room hotel. It holds a commanding position on Roosevelt Square – considered in the early 20th century to be one of the most beautiful squares in Europe – and is located near the banks of the River Danube at the Pest end of iconic Chain Bridge. The hotel has undergone a two-year, $110-million restoration and is a dedicated historical landmark that combines today's comforts with its elegant past. Many of the hotel's guest rooms and 17 suites reflect the Gresham Palace's architectural heritage with high vaulted ceilings; some overlook the river, others the old city. Two tower suites on the fifth floor have domed ceilings and magnificent views over the Danube and the Buda hills. www.fourseasons.com/budapest travel&living 67
