73 PATAGONIA REGION Day 9. Buenos Aires, Freedom of Choice. A guided tour of Buenos Aires begins with a visit to the Avenida de Mayo, an avenue connecting with the city's main downtown square, the Plaza de Mayo. You'll also see Government House, made famous when Evita Perón stood on the balcony. Next, enjoy coffee and a snack at the iconic Café Tortoni, a literati coffeehouse established in 1858. Later, explore the barrio of La Boca, with its colourful houses and charming pedestrian street, the Caminito. Continue on past the parks and tree-lined streets of Palermo and see La Recoleta Cemetery. Tonight, choose where to dine from one of three venues. BD Day 10. Buenos Aires, Freedom of Choice. Today, perhaps travel to the island town of Tigre for a cruise over the waterways of the Paraná Delta. You may like to explore the Parisian influence on Buenos Aires during an insightful city walking tour. Alternatively, head to Teatro Colón, one of the finest opera houses in the world. B Day 11. Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Fly to one of the world's most spectacular cities, Rio de Janeiro. Lapped by deep blue ocean and flanked by mountains and lush rainforest, life here pulsates to an intoxicating rhythm. Three Night Stay: Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana Palace. B Day 12. Rio de Janeiro. Travel to Corcovado, the mountain famous for its iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer. Visit the statue and travel to the platform at its peak for stunning views over the city. At sunset, absorb one of the world's truly exquisite views as you ride a cable car to the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain. Next, you'll have the opportunity to sample Brazil's national cocktail, the Caipirinha, before a delicious Brazilian BBQ. BD Day 13. Rio de Janeiro, Freedom of Choice. This morning, you may wish to embark on a tour through local favelas. Alternatively, venture deep into Tijuca Forest, the world's largest urban rainforest. Another option is to enjoy a colonial tour of Rio de Janeiro. This evening is yours to spend at leisure to relax or explore. B Day 14. Rio de Janeiro, Iguassu Falls, Freedom of Choice. Board your flight to Iguassu Falls, an impressive system of waterfalls that straddles the border of Argentina and Brazil. You may wish to step aboard a boat ride safari and take in the breathtaking spectacle of Iguassu Falls from beneath the thundering cascades. Alternatively, embark on an awe-inspiring helicopter ride over the falls. Tonight, dine at the Ipê Grill within your hotel. Two Night Stay: Iguassu Falls, Hotel das Cataratas. BD Day 15. Iguassu Falls. Take the opportunity to explore World Heritage-listed Iguassu National Park on the Argentinian side of the falls today. Ride the Rainforest Ecological Train through the forest to a series of walkways and viewing points. Afterwards, return to your hotel, located just a stroll from the falls. B Day 16. Iguassu Falls, Lima (Peru). Today, visit Parque das Aves Bird Park, set just outside the national park. Walk through the giant aviaries and get up close to a range of South American birds, including the iconic toucan. This evening, board your flight to the enthralling Peruvian capital, Lima. Two Night Stay: JW Marriott Hotel Lima, Ocean View Rooms. B Day 17. Lima. This morning, embark on a city tour with a local guide. Visit the World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Lima and see the Convent of Santo Domingo, one of the best preserved monasteries in the city. Known as the 'City of Kings', here you'll discover an artful combination of colonial monuments and lively local culture. Later, spend a fun afternoon at a private hacienda, where you'll enjoy lunch, live music and entertainment, and a graceful Peruvian Paso horse show.
