Welcome
George S
Welcome to
o now we're heading into the warmer weather, which means it's a great time to get outdoors, take in some sun, and think about new beginnings. In this issue of George, we're looking at the interlinked ideas of leadership, growth and planning for the future. I think all of
these qualities are well covered by our cover story – an interview with champion Super Rugby coach Ewen McKenzie. From his days as a player to his latest role as coach of the St.George Bank
Queensland Reds, Ewen has displayed all the qualities of a great leader. He inspires his team, plans his moves (from running the ball to recruiting players and assistants) and is always thinking about what comes next. I reckon he's got plenty more to share with his team – and the world – and
I can't wait for the next season to start. We're also profiling some local businesses that have experienced great
success by balancing far-thinking strategies for growth with carefully calculated risk taking. In addition to our customer stories, we've got some great information on how
to stay engaged with your core customers as your business grows; how to use mobile apps to assist with customer communications; and the latest economic update from our Chief Economist, Besa Deda. In our 'Time Out' section, food buff and sommelier Matt Skinner provides tips
on how to educate your palette and become a food and wine expert. There's also a great piece on the importance of relaxation. Too often we focus on the importance of work – and while work is important, we also need to take time out to relax and recharge. Finally, we've got a 'Parting thought' from our GM for Brand and Marketing,
Sivea Pascale. Sivea's got some great marketing tips for all businesses, including paying attention to your customers. It's great advice and a rule I live by every day.
