entertainment getsorted Compiled by Ella Werman INTO THAT great read tune in BERTIE BLACKMAN: POPE INNOCENT X Two years since Bertie Blackman's last album, she's back with her fourth, Pope Innocent X, and it comes from the bottom of her heart. "The record is about the lost years of my childhood, so I needed time to get to know that part of my life again and feel in touch with my inner kid," says the award-winning singer-songwriter, who created the album with acclaimed producer Francois Tetaz. "It's definitely the most personal album I've ever done," she admits. It's also more focused on vocals and drums than her last electronic-inspired album. latest f lick In the 1950s, Bertie's famous artist father, Charles Blackman, lived in the same building as renowned artist Frances Bacon, who painted a well-known portrait of Pope Innocent X. "My father really admired Bacon. It just seemed like an appropriate character," says Bertie, who notes each word in the title is meaningful to the album. "'Innocent' represents the child in the album, 'X' is like discovery and 'Pope' could represent admiration and hope." Besides supporting Gotye on his tour this month, Bertie has a host of street art projects coming up to celebrate the album artwork she created, along with the release of an accompanying linen-bound book containing her illustrations and words.
