sheila I what's on 12th October LES MISERABLES The Regal Theatre Following the success of Oliver! in April, the ICW Performing Arts Association presents an unforgettable, sell- out season of Les Miserables. WAPPA graduate and Perth based actor, Brendan Hanson, will play the leading role of Jean Valjean, whose never- ending quest for redemption encapsulates the story. -21st In October 2010 Boublil and Schonberg's Les Misérables celebrated its 25th Anniversary in London and Sir Cameron Mackintosh's production is now the world's longest running musical. This international award-winning musical sweeps its audience through an epic tale of passion and destruction, against the backdrop of a nation in the grip of revolution. This Perth revival will be one of the last productions mounted in Australia prior to the release of the movie next year. Tickets available from Ticketek 14th October ST MARKS ANGLICAN SCHOOL ART SHOW Indulge your senses with a food, delicious wine and beautiful music at the 27th annual St Marks Anglican Community School Art show. The art show, which is an established tradition of the school, focuses on local artists and is a highly regarded event in the local art community. The show opens on October 12 and concludes Sunday October 14. St Marks is located on St Marks Drive, Hillarys. of Light", the show is a celebration of local art and artists. This year, the Guest Artist will be Susan Sheppard. Among other artists to feature will be Felicia Lowe and Mikaela Shirley. Art, creativity and a love of nature have always been a core part of artist Susan Sheppard's life, right from a childhood of drawing faces on the walls of her family home and then to the more cultured today capturing the unique personality of Western Australia's great outdoors on canvas. At school, she focused on mathematics and science and managed add a creative balance by studying art as a hobby. Zoology studies kept her connected to nature, and provided opportunities to inspire students through 21 years of teaching science. Parenthood and crafts provided alternative outlets for Susan's artistic side. After retiring from teaching in 1999, Susan immersed her true passion and she turned her attention to painting and put her heart and soul into this wonderful art form. She completed a two year structured course with Robyn Lowry followed, and then threw herself into further tutoring by leading artists including Peta Miller, Jan Cross, Marcus Beilby and Brian Simmonds. An art trip to France was a further inspiration. Her current mentor is Andrew Tischler. Today, her paintings of Western Australia's environment are a joy to behold and the artworks give the viewer a real feeling of being part of a crystal ocean, the perfume of a gently opening of tumbled rocks. ''I would love to travel WA from top to bottom and paint the gorgeous bits. I love to paint nature and especially love to paint scenes with water," Susan said. "And for someone who never liked camping I have really have grown to love remote travel as well." Susan has showcased her work in a number of group exhibition being sponsored by DADAA at Freight Gallery in 2010. A second solo followed in 2011 at Colourlust Art Space in North Fremantle. Susan is now a full-time artist, based in East Fremantle, and her passions for art and nature have found their natural expression. Her life combines travel and camping with her husband to source images, and then periods of studio painting. Tickets to the opening night cost $25 each and include entry, canapés, wine and entertainment. They are available at the door or from the main school reception. The show will be open to the public on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October and entry is by gold coin donation.
