T NEW MASTERPLAN HAS FULL INDUSTRY SUPPORT he Yard 37 team are very pleased with the early interest and support received from the wider marine industry on the new Masterplan for Yard 37. "The new Masterplan has been developed over the last 12 months with significant input and consultation with the industry" says Leonie Freeman, Auckland Council Property Ltd's Project Director. Leonie confirmed that the industry has ratified the changes that have been made, "The Team are very pleased with the feedback from the industry over the significant changes that have been completed to the plan". "The plan was reviewed for a number of reasons which included the fact that vessels are getting bigger, so the Yard 37 precinct needed to consider vessels of up to 100 metres in length compared to the 60 metres that was considered when the original plan was conceived 10 years ago". Yard 37 is a marine industry precinct dedicated exclusively to creating and maintaining the world's best superyachts and other marine services. It is a key strategic development of potentially 20 hectares for Auckland's marine sector and the unique combination of land, deep water access and launch infrastructure, together with the grouping of like-minded and compatible companies it provides the opportunity to create a world class marine cluster. In recent years superyacht manufacturer Yachting Develop- ments have moved into an existing hangar at the Hobsonville facility, and custom boat builder Formula Cruises occupies another hangar just outside the boundaries of the precinct. Yard 37 is the responsibility of Auckland Council Property Ltd, one of the Council's CCO's, or Council Controlled Organisations. Under its management the Auckland Council has endorsed the project and is keen to see Yard 37 succeed. The Yard 37 display at the Auckland On Water Boatshow kicked off an awareness campaign for the project which will run for the next 6 months. Project Team member and industry advisor Phil Wardale confirms that the industry supports the new plans: "I was really pleased to see so many members of the wider marine industry at the Boatshow, and to see that there is support for such an important asset for the industry". Yard 37 has all its approvals, and now only requires a number of early presale commitments from the industry to allow the project to be initiated. Leonie confirms, "Subject to getting a number of presales over the next few months the project will be able to start next earthworks season". (summer) The perspective below shows conceptual plans of sites drawn for two industry members who have expressed an interest to be within the precinct, the larger rear shed is 60 metres long and 25 metres wide. "We are really pleased to be working with a couple of respected industry members who have expressed a need to locate their businesses to Yard 37, these companies will be able to secure themselves freehold land for their Marina businesses in a precinct dedicated to the industry" said Phil Wardale soon after the Boatshow. Phil confirms that the attraction of freehold title and the opportunity to build their own custom sheds and office space adjacent to deep water and launch infrastructure, is something that many members of the industry have been waiting for. Leonie and Phil do not want to see the industry miss out on the opportunity to base themselves in this dedicated marine precinct so they are asking for all interested parties to make contact and request a copy of the new Masterplan and brochure. This is the marine industry's opportunity to make Yard 37 a reality. For more go to www.yard37.co.nz or phone Leonie on 027 4 366 526 or Phil on 021 667 445.
