:business in brief Facebook NZ's one man band posts $81k loss in first full year Facebook New Zealand, the local unit of the global social media website, reported a small loss in its first full year of operation, while granting shares to one employee, based on the numbers it reported to the local regulator. A Google search didn't track down a physical address and the only employee with oversight of New Zealand came back as Adnan Khan, who gained publicity this year in articles in the National Business Review and Computerworld over the accumulation of fake followers on Twitter. Fasten your seat belts for a great night out! www.petamathias.com Facebook's 'Like' buttons are under threat Websites are not allowed to collect information on users under 13 without their parents' permission according to a child- privacy law called COPPA. This is trouble for Facebook because of Like buttons, which are on about 9 million websites. You can image how hard it would be for Facebook to make sure that everyone who clicks a Like button is over 13. Really hard. Even a little added friction, such as a "are you 13 and over?" dialogue box would tremendously slow down volume. So that's why Facebook wrote a 20-page letter arguing for a change in this rule. Facebook argued that Like buttons are free speech. Source: Business Insider Just fed the hens a poppy seed cake which didn't work. Now wondering if too many poppy seeds will make them stoned. Wendyl Nissen @wendylnissen I used to cut Wally/Waldo's out of the book & then glue them around the city late at night. Like in bus stops & on corners. Gala Darling @galadarling Dear Monday, I'm not ready for you yet. Je t'aime Hayr @wordgirlwriting 32 | www.hermagazine.co.nz A tasty treat Whittaker's introduces its latest creation for people who love chocolate and like to support a good cause. White Raspberry chocolate has been developed especially to support the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, which will receive 20 cents from every block sold during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. The idea came from four Samuel Marsden School students participating in the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) as the company 'Pink' who approached Whittaker's to see if it was possible to do something pink with chocolate to raise money for the Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. Whittaker's Brand Manager, and Marsden old girl, Holly Whittaker, instantly thought it was a good idea and took it to the Whittaker's team. The result is White Raspberry chocolate, which is an infusion of natural raspberry into Whittaker's traditional 28% cocoa white chocolate. She said WHAT? I'm surprised women weren't designed to be able to move their heads in a complete 360° circle. Seems fitting. Chrisanna4real @chrisanna4real
