"We moved some walls and redesigned some parts of the front of the house in order to create better flow, we put in ornate ceiling panels and cornices to match the older rooms and get the living areas modern." The home also has green features including passive solar design, solar power panels, solar hot water, Low-e glass, LeD lighting, vegie patch, louvre windows to promote cross-ventilation. The family also recycled as many bricks as possible during the renovation process to reuse in building the extension as well as reused doors. The well designed kitchen features a glass window splashback in kitchen and a great workspace, while the cabinetry runs through the kitchen and flows into the dining area and becomes bench seating in the living area - visually integrating these spaces. When it came to decorating Fel said just like the design of the home they tried to integrate old with new using the same wall colour throughout and an eclectic style of furnishing. "It's a blend of modern, mid century and art deco elements," Fel said. "We chose furniture with classic modern lines including antique daddy and daughter desks, our grandmother's vintage sewing machine, even some vintage glass bottles which were unearthed from under the house during the renovation process."
