This vessel, if the go-ahead is approved, could be in service in as little as 18 months. It is intended that community consultation be carried out over the next few months. In the meantime, MV Baldur, which began operating under the new company on July 2, 2012, will continue in service. Because of the public ownership of the venture, all operating costs and associated financial matters will be open for scrutiny. Freight from Timaru for both lines is consolidated by Portside Logistics Ltd who own 14 depots in and around Timaru. Of these, one takes in freight for SES and MV Rangatira and another for MV Baldur. Both are in Fraser Street, some 200 metres apart. Clients are advised to label their goods clearly to avoid incidents such as those recently when goods intended for transport in Baldur were delivered to the wrong depot, processed by PSL staff and shipped in Rangatira.
