2) DESIGN YOUR OWN There are several companies throughout New Zealand that offer printing services large enough to make wallpaper. We have designed a number of our own wallpapers for Annah Stretton stores throughout the country, and having a one-of- a-kind design definitely adds a fashionable and exclusive edge to your store. First you'll need to measure up the size of the space you want to fill. Then have an artist or graphic designer draw up a pattern or picture. To make up a file exactly to the size of the wall would be huge so we make ours up at ¼ the size and we let our printers know so they'll blow it up to the full proportion. Most printers will ask for a high-res (300dpi) PDF of the design and it takes about 2-3 days for completion. You'll need to liaise with your printers about exactly what stock they'll be printing on and they should be able to suggest a suitable adhesive to stick it to the wall. Contact www.vivid.co.nz for more information. 3) ACCESSORIZE YOUR SPACE If you simply want to update your existing wallpaper, or amp it up, there are a number of accessories available. Restickable decals I love the calendar and 'to do' wall decals from Paperroom.co.nz. Stay organised with these re-writable squares that are big enough for the whole family to stay on track. Paperroom also have the coolest Sewing Kit WallStickers that allow you to divide your wall in two – great for shared bedrooms! You can decorate your car, outline your windows, show where the bins belong, define spaces in a room ... the possibilities are endless. I also love the Coat Tree decal – a cost and space effective way of hanging items by screwing hooks into the branches. Stencilling Instead of wallpaper why not try your hand at decorating your own walls? 'Allover' stenciling just got ridiculously easy and fun. Wall Pattern Stencil Kits are designed in such a way that they can be placed by eye with no measuring necessary. Be amazed at how quickly you'll be able to cover your walls with these gorgeous organic patterns and how little paint you'll use. Stencils are a very cost effective alternative to designer wallpaper and you can say you painted it yourself! My pick is a gorgeous wall tree kit from www.theinside.co.nz Nakita Ardern EXTRA TIP: You could even design your own stencil at www.goldingcraft.com Above: Ferm LIVING wall stickers from Denmark Sewing Kit $125, This Month $215, To Do $125 all from The Paper Room 5 top tips for creating a winning wall display: • Don't be afraid to design your own wallpaper. If you have access to an artist or graphic designer, or if you have the means to do this yourself simply contact your local printers and find out the exact specifications you need to provide your artwork. • Prolong the life of your wallpaper by putting 110% into the application. Ensure you use the best quality paste (if required) and follow all instructions – don't cut corners or yours will peel! • Place your decals, especially in children's rooms well out of the reach of your youngsters. • Choose decals that are restickable. The last thing you want is a huge gash in your wallpaper or paint when you change you mind on the sticker's placement. • To spruce up existing wallpaper try stencilling. You could even make your own stencil to get your perfect design. www.hermagazine.co.nz | 97
