Maggie Barry
With a resounding 15,228 majority Maggie Barry became National's candidate for the North Shore in the 2011 elections
DURING HER 30-YEAR career she has been an award winning news and current affairs broadcaster, feature writer, and co-producer and presenter of Maggie's Garden Show. A successful businesswoman and owner of a specialist travel company, she has also worked with the government on the National Health Committee, chairing a working party into palliative care and heading a review into New Zealand Maternity services for the Minister of Health. Her extensive community work includes
being Patron of Hospice NZ and Alzheimers, governance experience as a Director with Outward Bound, and as Chair of the NZ Book Council. Maggie has an Order of NZ Merit for services to Broadcasting.
Q: Congratulations on becoming the North Shore electorate's first female MP. How have things been going so far?
A: It's been a stimulating and enjoyable six months, and even though I'm used to being busy, it's taken me all my time management skills to juggle the varied roles of being an MP. My electorate work in the North Shore is the focus of my attention from Friday to Monday and I attend as many local events and speaking engagements as I can. My
