:club profiles Vicky Woolford Savaronline.com Business description: Sávaronline.com is a premium range of 99% natural New Zealand- made skin care featuring all that is best in nature, style and sustainability. Number of employees: 2 Do you have children: 4 teenagers, 18,17,15 and 13 Hardest thing about starting your business: Finding the right balance in juggling a busy household with four teenagers and a husband. It was also very time consuming searching the world for packaging that fitted my aesthetic and environmental standards. Best thing about having your own business: Setting up Savar has enabled me to work from home so I am around for my children. Also there is nothing more rewarding than emails from customers about how much they are loving our products. Date the business was founded: After a year and a half of research and development we launched Savar both here and overseas in September 2011. What made you start the business: I have always had a passion for business and thrive on new challenges. After working as an artist for a few years and developing an interest in natural skin care I wanted to develop a range that showed being green and natural can also be beautifully stylish. Future goals and aspirations: We see potential for future growth in the emerging markets of Asia, and our focus us currently cultivating existing relationships and also identifying new opportunities in that area. Valuable learning experiences: The power of working in a team and working with great people who are all experts in their fields. Trust your instincts and surround yourself with great mentors and like-minded people. Hero/Role Model: Host of working women who have been successful, and in particular I admire women who have taken a product that is widely available and put their own twist on it like the fabulously talented clothing designers we have in New Zealand. Smart Investor finance is my byline and I consider all home owners investors. I invest time, jointly, with clients to get them to understand their financial profile and how to improve it. Best thing about having your own business: To a certain extent I am a free agent with regards to my own time. That creates opportunities to volunteer and be involved in the community. I have been very involved with the Sudanese and Burmese refugee community and this has been very rewarding. Although I may work longer hours I do have the choice to take breaks when I want and not when it suits my boss. Any creativeness within my own business gives personal reward and satisfaction. Date the business was founded: April 2007 What made you start the business: Working with clients to be debt free faster and delivering educational advice is my passion. To do this under my own brand is very rewarding. Business description: Bricks & Mortgages is a mortgage brokering business that works with first home buyers, home owners, and property investors. We are very education focused. I believe it is essential that before entering into a mortgage or a major purchase to have a clear understanding of your financial profile. This will allow for better decision making. My focus with clients who have home loans is to show ways to be debt free faster. Many clients are able to shave years off their mortgage, but do not know it is possible or how to do this. The savings can be very significant. One important financial goal for everyone should be to be mortgage free before retirement. Many of my clients are also property investors. With the current low interest rates and low property prices there are good opportunities to start, or grow, a portfolio. Investment property when debt free can create a stream of passive income to supplement any superannuation income. Helping clients to start or grow a property portfolio is very rewarding. Bricks and Mortgages Level 2, 20 Daly Street, Lower Hutt (04) 971 9990 beryl@bricksandmortgages.co.nz www.bricksandmortgages.co.nz Outside of working with the main banks, we have good relationships with a wide range of private funders and non bank lenders. These funding options can meet a wide variety of needs where it makes financial sense to do so. www.hermagazine.co.nz | 141
