IT SEEMS WE HAVE found ourselves in a holiday rut. When I found myself on day one of this year's holiday sitting once again under a frond-fringed veranda looking out on grey skies, listening to the constant patina of tropical rain, I began to seriously question what had brought us back to this pacific atoll for what could well be the fourth year in a row! It's not that we don't have other options – the Pacific rim
is peppered with 'paradiso' islands, a good number of which we have been fortunate to have sampled. So just what has lead to this addictive Aitutaki habit? The answer is not that hard to find - Cadence! Yes, it's
definitely the island's tranquil pulse that lures us back, serving up an almost immediate vein-injected fix of peace and harmony. In fact, having enjoyed the Aitutaki experience previously

driver quickly reminds me to breathe slowly and to turn off the phone. Tantalising peeps of the pristine reef, framed by a
heavily painted sunset, allow us to begin to form a familiar reference of the serenity and calm that will form each day of our stay. And so our stay this year looks like it will be enveloped
by inclement weather, something that we have never experienced before. Late monsoon-like rains have dominated the weather pattern for over a week and the forecast hints at yet another wet week. But speaking to one of the local gardening team lightens our outlook, with at least three days of better weather featuring in his 'local forecast'. And it is with delight that we awake on day two of our stay to a brilliant day. We have brought the kids with us this year and not unexpectedly they are keen to enjoy the better weather. A day-long cruise is booked - island hopping, snorkelling,
