Keri Elvin is the founder of the New Plymouth-based Performing Arts Collective Inc. and is the Chairperson of the management committee
THE PERFORMING ARTS COLLECTIVE Inc, founded in New Plymouth in 2010, provides coaching support, networking, performance opportunities, courses and agency services for local performing artists. "We are a multi-genre, multi-cultural and family oriented not-for-profit organisation that fosters the craft of performing, and provide performance opportunities for local talent. We are integrating the genres, working in collaboration with local event managers, visual artists and businesses and aim to work towards producing music videos." The Performing Arts Collective is presently working in collaboration with different clothing stores in the New Plymouth Centre City Mall, providing fashion showcases every month involving their models and singers. Keri directs and choreographs these shows and holds regular auditions to scout for new talent. In 2011 Keri won an outstanding educator award for her community education work, teaching Te Reo Maori courses. This year she has taught the Office of Ethnic Affairs course on Intercultural Awareness and Communication and Te Reo Maori lessons as part of professional development courses for staff at the museum and the New Plymouth District Council. Keri enjoys both drumming and percussion. She has a keen
interest in Taonga Puoro and researched this topic to teach to schools visiting the museum. The programme has recently been shared as community events at Puke Ariki, providing opportunities for both interactive and inter-generational learning.
