sheila I news MUSIC Steve Yollom's picks GOLDFRAPP the singles Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory are Goldfrapp; for 12 years they've produced some of the most iconic sounds for the dance floor. The Singles is their first collection of hits (not in chronological order) comprising of two new songs and 12 classics, which showcase the depth of the band's incredible talent. Enter a world of glamour, ambience and the slightly naughty all wrapped up in stunning electro beats, deliciously dreamy pop and unbelievable melodies. First up, the stompin', ultra sexy Ooh a la, if this doesn't get you moving- check your pulse. From here it's a rollercoaster through human emotion from the S&M inspired Number 1 through to the angelic and folk inspired sounds of Utopia and A&E. There's something in here for everyone, definitely one for the collection. back with this, their seventh album. Inspiration according to press releases came from the 1902 classic sci-fi movie Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon) and what a trip it is. At first you feel as if you are hanging on for dear life and quite frankly not going to make it, but take a couple of trips to the moon and the album starts to make sense, almost getting under your skin. There's a lot to get your head around; make no mistake, consideration for other people's eardrums was not taken into account when they made this album, it's all for them. Track three Sonic Le Voyage Dans La Lune The elusive and moody French band is AIR 18 SHEILA MAY 2012 Armada is a standout as well as Seven Stars and Astronomic Club. There are some great sounds on this album, keep listening and you'll stumble upon them like walking through heavy jungle only to burst through to an oasis of fresh air. is the new rocker on the block. Romancing is his debut album and what a debut it is. First up, Masochist sets the tone for the album, from quick paced riffs to banging drums and youthful raw energy and as with most debut albums and as the title suggest the subject matter is Romancing Hailing from New York and a bona-fide Brooklyn boy, Devin DEVIN predictable. There's a lot more going on in this album than appears at first listen. I couldn't help thinking of a young Iggy Pop but with the looks of James Dean and the soul of Van Morrison. This is one album you can really sink teeth into. COLLIDE Monument CHILDREN Children Collide will probably split fans of the first and second album. Gone are some of the signature riffs that the band was well known for, but on the flip side these have been replaced with something much edgier. Monument doesn't have the hits of earlier albums; but it does hold together as a solid body of work and it does do justice to its makers. The first single of the album, track two is Sword to a Gunfight which opens up with a boppin' bass riff; cue slightly psychedelic guitars, add drums…and they're off. The third album from Melbourne's ARCADE Out lands DEEP SEA awaited debut. Sydney's five-piece Deep Sea Arcade has produced an album that has it all going on. Step back in time to an edgier classic sixties fast forward to the psychedelic sound of the Stone Rose, pop out for tea with Ride and then for the fun of it go back in time to catch up with the Stones and gossip about the Beatles and reminisce about the Kinks. All the while making this their very own unique sound. I'll be kicking my weekend off with Seen No Right. They are a talented band and well worth your attention. Taking nearly a decade to spawn this long
