Arrive in Winnipeg, a thriving metropolis in the heart of Manitoba's remote tundra. Meet your fellow travellers and your guide for dinner this evening. Stay: Winnipeg, The Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel by Lakeview. D Day 2. Winnipeg, Churchill. Leaving the shiny skyscrapers in the distance, you'll head off the beaten track as you fly to the isolated town of Churchill this morning. After you touch down, you'll transfer to a seaplane and enjoy a breathtaking aerial tour of the winding Hudson Bay coast as you soar 60 kilometres north to Seal River Heritage Lodge, your residence for the next five nights perched on the edge of the bay. Welcome to the heart of polar bear country, where belugas grace the icy waters, thousands of birds watch from above and magnificent caribou wander the lands in step with the famous bears. On arrival at your lodge, your amiable hosts will give you a tour and you'll have time to settle in to your room. Sit down to a delicious lunch showcasing the wild delights of the region, before your first foray out to the nearby coast. Bring your camera as you never know when the graceful bears will show their faces. Back at the lodge, fill up on a lovely dinner as you discuss your day's outing before settling down for the night – you'll need a good night's sleep in preparation for your upcoming adventures. Five Night Stay: Seal River Heritage Lodge. LD Days 3 to 6. Wilderness and Wildlife Discoveries. Every day at Seal River Heritage Lodge starts with a gourmet breakfast. After, weather permitting, a number of awe-inspiring wilderness excursions are on offer, covering all perspectives of this remote territory. At Churchill Wild, close encounters really do mean close encounters. While you can follow the bears' tracks in a vehicle, you can also venture out from your fenced lodge on foot, completely free from barriers and protected only by your expert guide. Such daring expeditions are often rewarded with the best encounters. Alternatively, you can take to the water by boat in search of polar bears and beluga whales. Venture along the Hudson Bay coast by custom-made Tundra Tracker buggy. Scope out the wildlife, including foxes, caribou and wolves, or seek out over 100 species of birds on various walking tours. Drinks, appetisers and delectable dinners featuring locally sourced Arctic produce are served every night, and many evenings present the chance to watch the phenomenal light displays of the Aurora Borealis. Throughout your stay, there's ample time for rest and relaxation – particularly after dinner, when the fireplace in the common room is a favourite spot. You'll also enjoy lectures and slide presentations with your expert wildlife guides as you look ahead to the following day's activities. BLD Day 7. Churchill, Winnipeg.
