Grand Alaska Tour | 11 DAY 1: ARRIVAL Transfer to your hotel for your overnight stay shortly after landing in beautiful Anchorage. DAY 2: MATANUSKA-SUSITNA VALLEY Take a motor coach to Valdez, known as "Alaska's Little Switzerland." Your route will take you through the Matanuska-Susitna Valley with a stop at Worthington Glacier. You'll arrive in Valdez by early evening for a 2-night stay. (B, D) DAY 3: VALDEZ Spend the morning exploring this former Gold Rush town and the Valdez Museum before boarding a glacier-and-wildlife cruise to Prince William Sound. Float right up to the three-mile face of the Columbia Glacier, and hear tales of the region as told by the Alaskan crew. Don't get too caught up in the stories, though—you won't want to miss sightings of the seals, sea lions, otters, whales, and puffins that frequent these waters. (B, L) DAYS 4 – 5: FAIRBANKS Travel by motor coach to Fairbanks, where you'll spend the next two nights. The route planned will take you along Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which crosses 800 miles of frozen tundra, boreal forest, a river or stream for each mile, and three mountain ranges. The morning brings a sightseeing tour with a visit to the Fairbanks Museum, time for shopping and dining on your own, and a traditional riverboat cruise on the Chena River. (B) DAY 6: DENALI NATIONAL PARK Travel south by motor coach into some of the most untamed lands in the country—your home for the next two nights. The afternoon is at your leisure, and a complimentary park service activity is included with your tour. You can also elect to go river rafting, flight-seeing, take a jet boat safari, or visit an Iditarod champion's award-winning dog kennel. (B) DAY 7: TUNDRA WILDERNESS TOUR This is the excursion the animal-lover in you has been waiting for, with six to eight hours of fully narrated, guided exploration in Denali National Park. Don't forget your camera—bears, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep will be the stars of your photo shoot today. (B, S) DAY 8: ALASKA RAILROAD Relax before getting on the world-famous Alaska Railroad for your ride back to Anchorage. This morning, stop at the quaint climbing town of Talkeetna, where you can enjoy time to explore. Your journey continues in the afternoon to Anchorage by rail. Keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of Mt. McKinley or the black bears known to inhabit the banks of the Susitna River.
