Micronesia in the year 2016 will be the place to be, as we will be hosting a plethora of cultural and prestigious events. The Guam Visitors Bureau launched its Visit Guam 2016 campaign and 2016 calendar of events brochure, which includes event description and information details to prepare all travelers to visit Guam and the Micronesia region. We are pleased to share that our region in the Pacific will be the host for three major international events in 2016. First, the PATA Annual Summit (PAS), which attracts approximately 400 delegates from over 30 countries, is scheduled for May 18-21, 2016. PAS will bring together international thought leaders, industry shapers, and senior decision-makers who are professionally engage w ith the Asia Pacific region. The Summit serves both as the Association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) and as a global tourism forum for enhancing the sustainable growth, value and quality of travel and tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific region. Additionally, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with PATA took the unprecedented step to have a meeting on Guam in conjunction with the PAS. As the leading international organization in the field of tourism, UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide. Third, the 12th Festival of the Pacific Arts and Culture (FESTPAC) in 2016, which is held every four years throughout the Pacific and brings together people from around the Oceania for this two-week celebration is scheduled for May 22 - June 4, 2016. FESTPAC, also known as the "Olympics of Cultural Events in the Pacific," will bring delegations from 27 Pacific Island Nations and Territories, along with over 2,500 performers, artists and cultural practitioners to share and exchange their unique culture. With all the international events taking place, we are excited to share what our Micronesia region has in store for everyone. Visitors can indulge in the breathtaking sights of Palau's Rock Island Lagoon, picnic on the beautiful atolls of the Marshall Islands, dive into Chuuk's world renowned "Truk Lagoon", hike through the mystical Nan Madol ruins in Pohnpei, explore the ancient mangrove channels of Kosrae and swim alongside some of the world's breath taking manta rays in Yap. Island hopping through the CNMI, Saipan, Rota, Tinian is very popular in discovering the beautiful nature of the Mariana Islands and hike Guam's famous Mt. Lamlam, the tallest mountain in the world from sea level.
