Water reigns in this chain of 32 unblemished islands and cays. Leisure sailors, divers, sea turtles, and six types of dolphins are the most common visitors to the coral-rich Tobago Cays and nine inhabited islands, where privacy is prized. Even "mainland" St. Vincent's landmark shies from attention: banks of clouds swathe La Soufriere Volcano. Accessible only by boat, the Falls of Baleine also hide in modesty. But in Kingston, the oldest botanical garden in the Caribbean proudly flaunts its finery. Just off the coast, Canouan Island is one of the area's largest at three square miles. Home to a Jim Fazio championship golf course, where every hole overlooks the sea, its serenity is matched only by nearby 135-acre Palm Island, whose name comes from the many trees planted by Americans "Johnny Coconuts" and Mary Caldwell to protect its lower lying interior. Visit both by local ferry, and find peace in either. ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES Where Water Reigns To Barbados G R E N A D A T H E G R E N A D I N E S Palm Is.
