for an enduring solution to problems, which is most likely to be achieved with all parties in agreement. Government does not want to be constantly passing or amending legislation or re-litigating issues every time someone raises a new concern. Sometimes this will mean that your concerns may not be fully addressed and that the solution reflects the lowest common denominator; but this is still better than no solution.
MMP HAS NOW BUILT COMPROMISE INTO OUR SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT. Because of this, government has changed its approach. The
government may not necessarily have the numbers as it did under FPP, as MMP governments are invariably minority ones, without the numbers and needing its support partners. The result is that government is now far more willing to compromise. However, government has a monopoly on lawmaking and this will sometimes mean that compromise is the only realistic option for citizens and business in dealing with government. In conclusion, fighting city hall is never a good idea unless
there is no other choice. But in order to work successfully with the Government to resolve problems, you need to understand it, and this book sets out what you need to know to do that.
