MONTEREY, SAN FRANCISCO & SONOMA Icons abound in this pocket of northern California, from the fog- draped views of the Golden Gate Bridge to the cable cars rolling merrily past many of the city's 43 hills and the townhouses in Alamo Square known as the "Painted Ladies." These charming snapshots of San Francisco are well-preserved in a city that holds history sacred, a dedication proven with over 60 museums in its 49 square miles and, just offshore, the notorious island prison of Alcatraz. From there, views of the attractions of Fisherman's Wharf and 45-acre Pier 39, which boasts more than 90 shops and a water park, teasingly beckon, just around the corner from the oldest Chinatown in North America. It's at that pier that over 300 sea lions make their summer home, but for marine animal lovers, Monterey Bay's famed aquarium and a magnificent coastline that merges with the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary—"Serengeti of the Sea"—are bucket-list destinations, the latter covering over 4,601 square miles of ocean. Landlubbers, on the other hand, will find their bliss in the massive Yosemite National Park or Muir Woods redwood forest, if not the 300 wineries in the Sonoma and Alexander Valleys of the Greater Bay Area or the celebrated vineyards and Michelin-starred dining of the Napa Valley. 0 1/2 miles 0 1/2 km San Francisco Bay Vallejo St. Vallejo St. Union St. Green St. Filbert St. Greenwich St. Chestnut St. Beach St. Jefferson St. Sacramento St. Clay St. Washington St. Jackson St. Pacific Ave. Polk St. Larkin St. Hyde St. Leavenworth St. Jones St. Jones St. Taylor St. Mason St. Powell St. Stockton St. Grant Ave. Montgomery St. Kearny St. Sansome St. Battery St. Davis St. Drumm St. Pine St. Bush St. Sutter St. Post St. Turk St. Golden Gate Ave. Eddy St. Front St. Spear St. Steuart St. 8th St. Howard St. Folsom St. King St. Berry St. Gough St. Octavia St. Laguna St. Buchanan St. Francisco St. McAllister St. Grove St. Hayes St. Oak St. Page St. Haight St. 12th St. Webster St. Fillmore St. Laguna St. Steiner St. California St. Market St. Broadway Tunnel Broadway Bay St. Columbus Ave. The Embarcadero Lombard St. Geary St. O'Farrell St. Van Ness Ave. 3rd St. 3rd St. 4th St. Mission St. Bay St. Fulton St. Fell St. Fell St. Oak St. Marina Blvd. 9th St. Townsend St. Harrison St. 7th St. 6th St. 5th St. 2nd St. 2nd St. 1st St. Beale St. Bryant St. Brannan St. Fremont St. Main St. Hayes St. 10th St. 11th St. Gough St. Franklin St. Franklin St. North Point St. Golden Gate Recreation Area Aquatic Park Fort Mason Lafayette Plaza Ghirardelli Square Washington Square Alamo Square Jefferson Square Ansel Adams Center Transbay Terminal Ferry Building/ World Trade Center Cable Car Barn San Francisco Art Institute Japanese Cultural &Trade Center St. Mary's Cathedral Maritime Museum Mexican Museum Coit Tower Moscone Convention Center Museum of Modern Art WESTERN ADDITION FILLMORE UNION STREET FISHERMAN'S WHARF TELEGRAPH HILL RUSSIAN HILL NOB HILL UNION SQUARE SOMA CIVIC CENTER 80 80 101 101 101 4 5 8 10 13 3 12 9 6 7 2 HYATT REGENCY MONTEREY RESORT & SPA O O O H Nestled on 22 acres, newly renovated and on Del Monte Golf Course, lies this destination resort providing the quintessential Monterey experience with 550 guestrooms, 30 suites, and a President's House.
