Best known as the home of spirited, redheaded Anne of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island remains as unchanged as when author L.M. Montgomery put her precocious escapades to paper over 100 years ago. A land of quiet daydreams, best had on the magnificent harbor in Charlottetown or fittingly at Green Gables Heritage Place, you can also lose yourself in three Scenic Coastal Drives; the mussels contemporary PEI is known for; the Culinary Institute of Canada; the Confederation Centre of the Arts; or the Celtic Indian River Festival. Following Anne's path to the mainland of Nova Scotia, Scottish and Acadian heritage influence the capital city of Halifax, where the pubs are lively and the artisan goods beautifully crafted. Produce and seafood from the Atlantic Ocean and active Bay of Fundy take center stage at the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market. This bay is actually one of the Marine Wonders of the World, acknowledged for its 15 species of whales, tides that rise 53 feet straight up twice daily, and an ocean floor that can be walked when waters are low. On the other side of the bay lie the wilderness attractions of New Brunswick, where Mount Carleton presides over salmon and kayakers—a worthy warm-up to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gros Morne National Park. The park's fjords, mountain trails, fishing villages, and more compete with the silent power of 10,000-year-old bergs in Iceberg Alley, which stretches from the coast of Labrador to that of Newfoundland, a phenomenon that led to the tragic sinking of the Titanic, memorialized in 17 sites in Halifax. Let those museums serve as a reminder of the beauty of life, and toast yours in the city's characteristic pubs or on famous George Street in St. John's, Newfoundland. With this region in your reach, there's many a reason to celebrate. 6 8 2 6 7 1 8 8 312 224 126 108 116 19 10 11 1 7 7 2 2 2 104 104 102 101 101 101 103 15 11 104 105 PRI NCE EDWARD ISL A N D N E W B R U N S W I C K N O VA S C OT I A Gulf of St. Lawrence Bay of Fundy Northumberland Strait Passamaquoddy Bay St. Georges Bay Bay du Vin Chedabucto Bay Bras d'Or Lake Lake Rossignol A T L A N T I C O C E A N Halifax Moncton Charlottetown Sydney Sydney Mines Dartmouth Port Hawkesbury Cape Breton Highlands N.P.
