In this fascinating country, the ghost of Eva Peron leans out of Parisian-style balconies in sophisticated Buenos Aires. Gauchos, the original cowboys, kick up the heels of their horses in the Pampas. European-Latin fusion and a zest for life mark the capital, where a lively arts scene vies with glorious gastronomy, and posh neighborhoods with colonial mansions, to headline as the essence of Buenos Aires. Yet step away from its cities and the "Land of Silver" is instantly transformed into one of many faces. The eighth largest nation in the world, its diversity reaches farther even than its reputation for excitement and beauty. It's here that explorers will find landmarks as unforgettable as Iguazú Falls, its winding Devil's Throat and protected park. Patagonia is another, revered as a mecca of dinosaur digs. Fossil finds are easily commemorated in Bariloche—the "party capital of Patagonia"—with a glass of Malbec or Merlot, two of the most notable Argentine varietals. Although it is Mendoza that produces 70% of the country's wines, the western province still bears resemblance to its neighbor for its own "Triassic Park."
