Capable John Deere power
Ease of access to battery and tank bits end of the engine bay under a small seat.
Shoal draft and manoeuvrability were two key requirements besides offering a fully sheltered cabin. The stern of the vessel under the arch is open, with soft roll-up clear screens to allow airflow from two skylight hatches for'ard. A sturdy duckboard across the transom protects the water jet below and is a friendly place if the crew need to clear river debris that may be fouling the jet unit.
Some very substantial rubber fendering, reminiscent of a bumper boat, is secured around the exterior of the hull. With the frequent berthing and varying levels of river flow, this solid fender system is a smart idea.
Under the duckboard
checker plate non-skid deck, remembering most passengers are wearing walking or tramping boots when they visit the park. In keeping with river jetboats, the helmstation is part way
for'ard on the port side, with the hand and foot throttle and the bucket control on the right hand side.
Powered by a 75hp John Deere 4045DFM50 marine diesel driving a Hamilton HJ212 waterjet, she is capable of a top speed of 11 knots, although her operating speed is around eight knots. The engine is fully enclosed in its own insulated hush box to ensure passenger comfort in the cabin. The main starter battery and access to the fuel shut-off valves are mounted at the front
Built for a particular job in mind, this well-built, robust and functional little ferry is more than up to the task of carrying the many tourists who visit this little hideaway in the hidden valley.
