This quarter view gives a good angle on the working side of the Mystique II
fouled by weed or a pot line. To port is a small gated door in the transom to give access to the deck.
The aft deck is a quite expansive space and is capable of stowing up to 50 pots, depending on their size, when potting out at the start of the season or picking up at the end. When he is fishing, Paul can carry up to four insulated polyethylene Dolab bins which are used to store the day's live catch of crays. For water circulation he uses four deck hoses which may run off the waterjets or a 2in Jabsco pump from the motors as a back-up, with the water overflowing onto the deck. Once back in port, these bins are drained before the boat is hauled and the bins lifted off with a Hiab crane and transported directly to the processing plant and new bins loaded. For'ard and central in the deck under the deck shelter is a small, insulated alloy hold for bait and ice. The top of this hatch makes a handy workbench when sorting out pots or gear. To port, the side screen extends aft to the roofline, giving added protection to the work deck from the southern elements. To starboard, just outside the cabin door, the shelter screen extends aft about 900mm to protect the deckhand from the weather. The deckie is handy to hear instructions from the skipper as he works the pot davit and hydraulic line hauler, recovering pots and the day's catch.
Opposite to port is the ship's head, basin and shower. The

Mystique II is essentially a day boat but can offer crew overnight facilities in reasonable comfort.
As we step into the saloon deckhouse, the helmstation is immediately ahead on the yield or starboard side. The conning position is dominated by the Furuno electronics package, which includes an FCV1150 sounder with a 2kW dual- frequency transducer, a GP3500 GPS chartplotter, an M1935 radar with a 4kW open-array scanner and a NAVpilot 700 autopilot. An Icom IC-M422B VHF radio is for communications.
