As we move into this space we find the missing anchor winch is in a central position mounted on the for'ard collision bulkhead. Now this is a bit different. While we have started to see a number of smaller vessels mounting their anchor winch below deck or in a protective locker, we have not seen this arrangement on a larger vessel or a tug. Paul says these tugs rarely go to anchor, so you end up with a very expensive winch on deck deteriorating into a rust ball and consuming heaps of maintenance dollars.
