GUaDaLaRjaRa The second largest city in Mexico, the birthplace of mariachi, and the home of the Mexican Hat Dance, or Jarabe Tapatio, as it's known locally, this capital of the Mexican State of Jalisco is more recently known as the country's "Silicon Valley." With a rich history spanning back to 1542, when it was founded on Valentine's Day by Doña Beatriz Hernández by royal Spanish decree, the history, culture, and colonial splendor is an urban complement to the more commonly visited coasts. With a minimum of 15 languages spoken by its original inhabitants prior to the arrival of the conquistadors, Guadalajara's diverse influences are far-reaching.
