MARKETPLACE CONTINUED … KEEP IN TOUCH
Uniden has released four new models to its VHF marine radio range. The two fixed-mount and two hand-held devices are all designed for New Zealand conditions.
The UM380 is a splash-proof 25 watt fixed-mount class D VHF radio with digital selective calling, or DSC, including a distress button. The user only has to press one button to call for help during an emergency. The UM380 will retail for $259.99.
The UM415 fixed-mount VHF radio is submersible. It also features including the distress button and position send and request. A high-performance transceiver on both models ensures clear communication and helps prevent and reject interference. The UM415 has a recommended retail price of $379.99. The hand-held MHS050 is waterproof and floats, making it particularly suitable for sailors and kayakers. Features include 16/9, triple-watch and priority scan. It is priced from $149.95.
The top model of the range is the submersible, flotable MHS125 hand-held marine radio with an emergency strobe, all marine and weather channels, dual and triple-watch and a memory channel scan. It has instant access to channel nine or 16 and adjustable transmitting output power to maximise the battery life. The MHS125 has a recommended retail price of $399.95. Simrad Yachting has expanded its NS range of multi-function displays with the touch-screen NSS Sport series based on the Simrad NSE platform developed for fishing, sailing and cruising.
The touch-screen is for quickly placing waypoints, marking fish and acquiring radar targets, while the rotary knob is for zooming on a chart, adjusting gain, steering the autopilot
or cranking up the volume on Simrad's SonicHub stereo system.
The NSS Sport is available in three display sizes, the 163mm NSS7, the 213mm NSS8 and the 305mm NSS12. Each model incorporates LED backlighting and an internal GPS antenna. The NSS7 and NSS8 have broadband sounder technology, while the NSS12 can be integrated with Simrad's BSM-2 module to penetrate any ocean depth.
The series is pre-loaded with Navionics' coastal cartography and is said to be compatible with broadband radar, StructureScan, SonicHub and integrated autopilots. It can also be networked with multiple Simrad displays throughout the vessel. Contact Advance Trident, phone +64 9 845-5437 or see www. advancetrident.com
TAKE THE STING OUT OF VIBRATION
Lo-Rez BR4-TLS vibration isolators are said to not only reduce the level of mechanical vibration an engine or genset transmits through the vessel, but also significantly reduce noise.
The isolators come in several sizes and have been fitted to vessels as long as 143m. Each housing size has 15 different torque/stiffness combinations of helical springs, plus pneumatic damping. An adjustable limit stop prevents excessive vertical and rocking motion, while neoprene damping pads address lateral stability. The load springs are seated in rubber cups to avoid metal friction.
