The area's mild winters and warm, dry summers make it perfect for checking off all the items on your vacation to do list. Adventure seekers can surf with southern right whales; dive through the wreckage of a scuttled Navy destroyer along the coast; water ski on the mighty Murray River; hike the formidable Heysen Trail; or cycle along the Mawson Trail from the Adelaide Hills. If serious thrills are your thing, you can explore subterranean caves, climb a mountain, or go diving with some of the most fearsome sharks on the planet. Venture to Adelaide, South Australia's elegant, easy-living capital. While there, take a morning dip with dolphins in beachside Glenelg, just 20 minutes from the city center. If you appreciate fine food and wines, tour the National Wine Centre or the fabulous Adelaide Central Market. It's less than an hour from the capital to some 200 cellar doors and tempting food and wine trails. Journey to the Outback and see the awesome Flinders Ranges, or head south to Kangaroo Island and Seal Bay and marvel over fascinating landscapes like Remarkable Rocks. With endless stretches of coastline, South Australia is the perfect place for ocean lovers. Yorke Peninsula offers great surfing beaches, fishing, and long, lazy beach days.
