DAY 9: YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE Tour the Three Gorges Dam before cruising upstream through some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. Sail through Xiling Gorge, the longest and deepest of the Three Gorges. (B, L, D) DAYS 10-11: YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE Take an excursion through the Daning River Small Gorges before entering the Wu Gorge. Continue on through the Qutang Gorge, the shortest, narrowest and most dramatic gorge. The next day's shore excursion is to Fengdu, the Ghost City. Walk through the town, observing statues of ghosts and devils on Mingshan Hill. (B, L, D) DAY 12: YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE DISEMBARKATION – CHONGQING TO CHENGDU Disembark from the cruise vessel and transfer to Chongqing, where you will visit the ancient village of Ciqikou, dating back over 1,700 years. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the steep, pedestrian street with tea houses, artist studios and embroidery workshops lining both sides, located in old structures made of bamboo and timber. Here you will have a glimpse of a way of life existing for centuries. Later you travel to Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan Province. (B, L, D) DAY 19: SHANGHAI Sightseeing today starts in the Old Town of Shanghai, where cobbled streets are lined with traditional shops. Take a walk through moon gates and latticed pavilions in the peaceful Yu Gardens, then on to the historical riverfront area, the Bund. (B, L, D) DAY 20: SHANGHAI Today you cross the Nanpu Bride to explore the modern Pudong District. Afterwards, you discover the restored Xintiandi area, with its unique 1920's style shikumen buildings. In the evening, enjoy a cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River to view the picturesque nightscape of this exciting city. (B, L, D) DAY 21: SHANGHAI TO US Fly to the US, arriving home later the same day or the following morning, depending on flight schedules. (B, L, D) DAY 16: YANGSHUO This morning, we discover the beautiful rural countryside around Yangshuo, with its pretty hills and local farms. The afternoon is at leisure. You meet again this evening for a display of traditional cormorant fishing. (B, L, D) DAY 17: YANGSHUO TO SUZHOU This morning, we drive back to Guilin for our flight to cosmopolitan Shanghai and transfer to the charming city of Suzhou, acclaimed throughout Chinese history as one of the most cultured. (B, L, D) DAY 18: SUZHOU TO SHANGHAI The exquisite gardens of Suzhou have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. You will visit the fine Humble Administrator's Garden, as well as the Master of the Nets Garden. This afternoon, you visit a local silk mill still in operation today and enjoy a cruise on the ancient Grand Canal. Return to Shanghai and enjoy a dinner of traditional cuisine. (B, L, D) MAR 16, 2014 APR 27, 2014 DAY 13: CHENGDU – DAY TOUR TO LESHAN Travel to Leshan to visit the Grand Buddha, the world's largest stonecarved Buddhist statue. You take a short boat trip to view the statue from the river. The carving of the Buddha into the side of Lingyun Mountain began in 713 AD and was completed in 803 AD. Return to Chengdu, visiting the old town of Huanglongxi en route. Enjoy a delicious Sichuan meal in the evening.
