GASTRONOMY
Seville's dining culture is best experienced through tapas,
shared in the city's bars and bodegas. Try classic Andalusian
flavours such as jamón ibérico, manchego cheese, gazpacho,
salmorejo and fried fish.
For something sweet, seek out orange-infused pastries,
convent-made biscuits or torrijas (Spanish-style French
toast). Whether enjoyed in a shaded plaza or a bustling
neighbourhood bar, food in Seville is as much about
atmosphere and conversation as it is about flavour.
DISHES TO TRY
• Serranito: A sandwich
made with pork loin,
Iberian ham, green
peppers and tomato.
• Salmorejo: Cold
tomato soup topped
with ham and hard
boiled eggs.
• Carrillada de cerdo:
Traditional slow-
braised pork cheeks.
• Gazpacho: A cold
vegetable soup.
SHOPPING
Seville's shopping scene offers up stylish keepsakes and
locally made pieces. Around the historic centre, boutiques
and artisan shops sell hand-painted ceramics, colourful
tiles, embroidered shawls, fans and leather goods that
reflect Andalusia's craft traditions.
Look for ceramics from the Triana district, long associated
with tilemaking and pottery, or browse for flamenco-
inspired accessories such as decorative combs, castanets
and fringed mantones. Food lovers may also wish to take
home a taste of the region, from extra virgin olive oil and
local preserves to sherry from nearby Jerez.
