22 | France Destination Guide Whether visiting for the first time or returning once more, the "City of Light" never fails to captivate. City Guide PARIS As Thomas Jefferson observed, "A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of life," a sentiment that still rings true. From world‑class museums to café‑lined boulevards, the city offers endless ways to experience its culture and charm. MUST SEES Begin with the Louvre, once a royal palace and now home to some of the world's most iconic works, including the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and Winged Victory of Samothrace. Equally impressive is the Musée d'Orsay housed in the spectacular railway station Gare d'Orsay, which holds the world's largest collection of Impressionist and post‑Impressionist paintings. Nearby, the Jardin des Tuileries, an enchanting park, is ideal for a stroll. Art, literature, music and dance form the very heartbeat of Paris, and Montmartre is one of the best places to appreciate it all. The neighbourhood has for centuries been home to artists and is a wonderful spot to wander. As you walk through each arrondissement, take in architectural highlights, from elegant bridges over the Seine to the Opéra Garnier which stands as a Baroque masterpiece and one of the city's oldest working theatres. And for something a little different, visit the Catacombs to tour their network of tunnels lined with centuries‑old remains. Afterwards, unwind at Bar Hemingway in the Hotel Ritz, once the genteel haunt of the American writer. It is as welcoming today as it was then. EIFFEL TOWER
