Learn more about the artists featured and the reasons that art is valued so highly on board our ocean ships. No matter how far our journeys take us, we like to remember where we came from. This is why the expansive art collection on board our ocean ships is very much an ode to our Nordic heritage. Our carefully curated range of works pays tribute to all things Norwegian and also serves as a unique attraction for our guests on board. A RICH MIX From oil paintings, photography and sculpture, to model ships and ceramics, the size and breadth of our extensive art collection is staggering and can be seen throughout our ocean ships—in the dining venues, public spaces, corridors and even the staterooms. NORWEGIAN ART ACROSS THE FLEET Afternoon tea is served in the Wintergarden, where on board the Viking Sea®, celebrated Norwegian sculptor Knut Steen's abstract marble scuplture, Aurora, can be found. For those enjoying the Main Pool on board the Viking Orion®, Norwegian photographer Isabel Tellefsen's simple but striking coastal shot Nesodden adorns the wall. PAINTINGS BY WEIDEMANN Impressions from Nature by Norway's most prominent abstract painter, Jakob Weidemann, takes pride of place in The Restaurant on Deck 2 of the Viking Orion, while his 1979 piece, Coltsfoot, makes an appearance at The Restaurant entrance on the Viking Vela®. SCULPTURAL STATEMENTS On board the Viking Vesta®, Note II—a striking glass sculpture by renowned Norwegian sculptor, painter, and graphic artist Nicolaus Widerberg—claims its place in the Wintergarden. Drawing inspiration from the timeless forms of ancient Greek and Egyptian statues, Widerberg has a footing in the figurative tradition of art, exploring the interplay of form and balance. His pieces can be found across the Viking ocean fleet, with his sculptures, Support and Together, on display in the Wintergarden of the Viking Jupiter® and the Viking Orion respectively.
