In Scandinavia, the Nisse is a beloved figure of Nordic folklore—a mythological household spirit deeply rooted in rural life and winter traditions. Most commonly associated with the winter solstice and Christmas season, these guardians were believed to protect families and livestock from misfortune, ensuring harmony on the farm during the harsh northern winters. Resembling the familiar garden gnome, Nisse are typically small in stature, with long white beards and a tall red or brightly coloured cap. They dwell in farmhouses and barns, quietly assisting with chores and safeguarding the homestead.
