Step back in time and explore the ancient
marvels of Paestum
Located near the Amalfi Coast in the province
of Salerno, the Archaeological site of Paestum
is an ancient city of Magna Graecia and a
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded by
Greek colonists in the 7th century BC, Paestum
was later conquered by the Lucanians and
Romans. The site includes some of the
best-preserved Doric temples in the world,
dedicated to Hera, Athena and Poseidon,
making it a must-see for history and
archaeology enthusiasts. The rediscovery and
excavation of Paestum in the 20th century
revealed stunning artifacts, including the Tomb
of the Diver. More than 4,500 metres of
defensive walls surround an amphitheatre, the
main Via Sacra avenue and a museum
featuring priceless art and artifacts recovered
from the site.
