10 VIKING.COM | SPR ING 2021 Friends Val Hills and Ann Gregory reminisce about the historical highlights of their Adriatic voyage Time travel T he opportunity for two ladies of a certain age to be a part of the maiden voyage of Viking Sun was too good to miss and she didn't disappoint! We had chosen this journey as it takes us through history – from the Venetians to the Romans and ancient Greece. e ship was glorious: sleek and modern, with a hint of Scandi. Our stateroom would have to wait – we were off to explore Venice, to plan our next day, taking the water- bus shuttle arranged by Viking. A whole day in Venice to look forward to! On the way back from our recce, we noticed how elegant the ship looked from the water and we couldn't wait to explore her. Our stateroom was near Mamsen's and this quickly became our favourite place for breakfast – the pancakes were divine – and the adjacent Explorers' Lounge is a wonderfully stylish and sociable space, ideal for enjoying views. Next day, the water bus to St. Mark's Square worked a treat, with Viking staff and their big red brollies very visible, to help us find our way. We began with the included tour, then made our way off the beaten track.
