Shopping
The bustling and prosperous Nanjing Road
is the premier commercial street in
Shanghai—over a million people shop here
every day.
Another of Shanghai's four famous
shopping streets is North Sichuan Road,
where bargain hunters pounce on locally
produced souvenirs. And, Huaihai Road is a
busy commercial thoroughfare, with a stretch
known as Maison Mode that offers access to
an enticing array of luxury brands.
Gastronomy
Filled with juicy pork, the soup dumpling, or
xiaolong bao, is a Shanghai staple. Also be
sure to try Yunnan ham—known for its rich
and savoury taste—which is often paired with
various vegetables and seasonings to create a
flavourful stir-fry.
Food is the order of the day on Middle
Tibet Road, while Tianshan Tea City on
Zhongshan West Road is a multilevel labyrinth
completely devoted to Chinese cha (tea). Or,
enjoy a drink beside Shanghai's cool elite at
the Vue Bar on Huangpu Road in the Bund,
taking in the vista of the Pudong district's
futuristic skyline.
