O N E D AY I N PA S S AU Nestled in the southeastern corner of Germany, Passau, also known as the "City of ree Rivers," is a picturesque gem with historic buildings and baroque architecture dating back to the 2nd century BC. As one of Bavaria's oldest cities, it radiates a joyful atmosphere during Christmas. From late November until just before Christmas, Passau's magical Christmas markets come to life. During the festive season, Passau transforms into a winter wonderland. Begin your day with a stroll along the Inn promenade to the point where the three rivers—the Inn, Ilz, and the Danube—meet. Each river boasts a different hue, and their swirling confluence is a mesmerising sight. Follow the painted cobblestones to Artists' Alley, where you can admire the work of local artists. Visit the nearby Glasmuseum Passau, home to the world's most extensive collection of European glass, and the Alte Rathaus (Old Town Hall), which dates back to the 14th century. Along the way, look up at the twinkling lights and enjoy the aroma of spiced gingerbread, grilling sausages, and roasting almonds from street vendors. Enjoy a traditional lunch and relish the flavours of Passau. After lunch, treat yourself to dessert at Café Simon, where a selection of handmade pralines, truffles, gingerbread, and cakes await. Enjoy coffee and cake or other traditional Passau specialties. Conclude your day in Passau at the magnificent 17th-century St. Stephen's Cathedral, a stunning centrepiece of the city with its spectacular tiled roof and spire reaching into the sky. It is also home to Europe's largest pipe organ. Explore the romantic market stalls of the Christkindlmarkt, which offer a Bavarian yuletide atmosphere. Indulge in an array of handmade goods, from tasty treats to delicate glass ornaments and traditional wooden toys. You might even find a unique artisan gift created by local craftsmen to take home. After exploring, head back to your ship to settle into your stateroom.
