10 | Viking Explorer Society News "In Cairo, we had a great tour guide, Ahmed. His knowledge, his sense of humour, and his caring attitude every inch of the way was a credit to the Viking name. He was with us every step of the way and brought Cairo to life with the tales he could tell and the history he could share. He made history come to life! Temple after temple, Pharaoh after Pharaoh—it was a history lesson, after a geography lesson, after a political summary, after a cultural revelation, after a religious education, after a geology lesson." Patricia G. "Our guided tour of Regensburg showed us the rich history of the city as a centre of power & trade. We were awestruck by the cathedral, the town hall and the tower houses. We finished with eating delicious sausages by the old stone bridge! " Paul B. "We had a fabulous dinner in a winery in Bordeaux, France. Delightful food and wine." John Y. "At Honningsvåg, a remote enclave where king crabs thrive in Norway's cold waters, we take a King Crab Safari, speeding out to traps on a thrilling jet-boat ride with breathtaking mountains on all sides. Our guides caught eight hefty crabs and took them to a tiny fishing village where they were prepared, cooked and ready to feast on 15 minutes later." Barry M. "I had the privilege of hearing violinist and conductor Alma Deutscher, known as Little Mozart, play a wonderful piece she composed at age 9, at the Strauss Capelle Vienna. A memorable evening. " Ĝail A. "The Jewish Sabbath carries significant emotional memories for all my family, and the invitation from the Viking cultural team, to join other Jewish passengers on our first Friday night on board was indeed memorable. The white-clothed table was set with the traditional candles, bread and wine and saying the Shabbat blessings together was a warm and unforgettable experience. " Toby H. "We went on a booked tour (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) to meet an Elder to understand the culture(s) of Eastern Canada, in particular, a traditional smudging ceremony. A young lady explained how the tribe have empowered themselves and no longer relied on any outside funds to operate, with immense pride. " Kathryn J. "Our days at sea included out-of-Earth experiences with Patrick Stewart narrating Journey into Space in the Explorers' Dome, as well as lectures on the region of the world we were cruising in—perfect for our curious minds as well as TED Talks always available in our stateroom TV. Viking is so much more than you think!" Lee V. "A classical concert evening in Vienna featuring the music of Mozart, with ballet and opera performances, transported us to an age of elegance and sophistication." - P e t e r F. Our guests have journeyed across the globe, each bringing back unique stories, unforgettable moments and rich cultural discoveries. Here, we share a few of their accounts that capture the magic and charm of their explorations. Top to bottom: Mortuary Temple, Bahari, Egypt; Alma Deutscher, rehearsing, Old Town Buildings, Regensburg; Holding King Crab, Ketchikan Something TO REMEMBER
