Innovative ships designed for comfort and exploration
AT VIKING, WE BUILD INNOVATIVE SHIPS that
are appropriately sized and purpose-built for an
immersive polar experience. Our expedition ships are
small enough to navigate in remote areas, slender
enough to pass through canals and large enough
to provide speed, superior handling and stability in
rough seas.
100% POLAR CLASS
Both Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris have a Polar
Class notation, indicating the ships are designed
to travel safely to the polar regions. This means
that, unlike most other travel companies off ering
expedition voyages, we off er a 100% polar class fl eet
on voyages to Antarctica.
INCREASED STABILITY & COMFORT
Our expedition ships feature both fi n stabilizers
and U-tank stabilizers that reduce rolling by nearly
50% when the ships are sailing or stationary.
An integrated bow creates a longer waterline for
the ships and state-of-the-art fi n stabilizers allow
the ships to glide over the waves for the calmest
possible journey.
Viking ships will also be faster than many, allowing
quicker travel across the notoriously rough Drake
Passage. In regions where anchoring is not possible,
dynamic positioning mode allows hover in place
for more streamlined exploration while preventing
damage to the seafl oor.
UNIQUE FACILITIES DESIGNED FOR EXPLORATION
A state-of-the-art, industry-fi rst in-ship marina, The
Hangar provides embarkation and disembarkation of
our Special Operations Boats and other equipment
from inside the ship sheltered from the elements.
