PROTECTING FLORA AND FAUNA
Bird safe lighting mode is a proprietary lighting
mode developed in partnership with The Cornell Lab
of Ornithology, to deter birds from being attracted
to the onboard lights. We advocated for and
implemented 'Whale Safe Speeds' in geofenced areas
of Antarctica to provide better viewing opportunities
and maintain whale safety. Our strict biosecurity
measures protect the native flora and fauna to
which we sail. Our special boot washing machines
ensure we do not contaminate vulnerable remote
environments with non-native flora or pathogens,
or transplant foreign organisms to local flora.
BUILT FOR EXPLORATION
The SILENT-E notation, one of the highest levels of
DNV certification for quiet ship propulsion, ensures
we minimise underwater noise pollution. Continuous
oceanographic monitoring from a suite of sensors
(ferryboxes) provides data to our scientific partners
and contributes to the global understanding of the
environment. While weather balloons are deployed
to track weather patterns and measure atmospheric
changes to help predict global weather forecasts.
