The soft pontoons were made with a heavy duty PVC outer with a seven compartment butynol inner. The vessel has individual seating for four crewmembers, a dedicated rear-facing seat for crew in charge of towing and a forward facing bench seat across the stern of the boat for three passengers. The large forward cabin has two full-size bunks and a separate head with a Jabsco marine toilet – for those long tows. The main cabin the seating was raised to give better visibility for all crew during searches, with individual lighting for each station. A heater was installed to keep the large screens demisted and this area of the vessel is lined with Frontrunner for soundproofing and crew comfort. Support from Newmont Waihi Gold assisted in crew training, with one member, Shayne Bennie, (a part of their extremely well trained Mine Rescue Group) whose knowledge and the Newmont Waihi Gold sponsorship enabled the purchase of the very latest in first aid rescue; a scoop stretcher using spider straps and a Kevlar back-board from Australia – these are stowed in a ceiling compartment of the main cabin. Five Pelican packs of various sizes donated by the ANZ bank staff fund contain the defibrillator, first aid and trauma equipment, oxygen, and toolbox. The Pelican packs are contained in specially built racks near the companionway of the vessel for quick release and can be transported through the water when needed. The latest in LED cabin lighting was supplied by Hella Marine, including map lights and walkway lights, floodlights at the rear and hand-held spotlights. The Raymarine electronics package includes the very latest E-Series electronics and high definition radar. Gallagher Rescue was officially launched on January 20, 2013 at the Bowentown Boat and Sportfishing Club after being christened by Lady Judi Gallagher from Gallagher Industries. Sir William and Lady Gallagher are now represented on both coasts, with rescue craft at Waihi Beach on the east coast and Raglan on the west coast. The new Gallagher Rescue and her trailer are considerably heavier than Search One, and because of the trailer design it has to go further into the water; this meant that a brand new John Deere 115hp four-wheel drive tractor was purchased with the support of Agro Equipment. Since entering service this new rescue craft is performing to all the requirements expected, having successfully completed more than 30 incidents over this summer with many more hours being spent on training and learning to use the latest technology now available to these volunteer rescue crews.
