Michelle Hespe, and the Inside Mining team news+views AustMine 2013 international Conference & Exhibition: Wrap-up The Austmine 2013 International Conference & Exhibition, held from May 20 to 24, brought together many of the best products on the market, with the aim of meeting the most pressing challenges in the mining sector around the globe. The conference featured presentations by industry innovators such as Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Newcrest and Oceana Gold, and focused on the role that technological advancements can play in improving operational effectiveness, global supply chains and workforce safety. Since 1908, Australian Mining has kept workers informed of the latest and most crucial developments in information and safety – essential for every mining site. Mining giant perseveres with NSW Watermark Coal project Shenhua, the world's largest mining corporation by output, is set to develop its first Greenfield mine project outside of China if it receives environmental approval for its Watermark Coal project in New South Wales. The group is planning to develop a new open-cut coal mine in Gunnedah with an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum; it is said to be the largest in the state's history. Shenhua recently submitted an Environmental Impact Statement setting out how the company plans to deal with issues pertaining to agricultural and water resources, biodiversity, greenhouse gases and air quality, among others.
