TAHITI/PAPEETE "Queen of the Pacific" SO UTH PACI F I C OC E A N Mahina The beautiful island of Tahiti, encircled by black sand beaches and a crown of steep majestic peaks, is the largest and most diverse of the Polynesian islands. The mountainous interior is adorned with deep valleys, clear streams, and high waterfalls, all bathed in the green iridescence of Mother Nature's light. The coastal lands, edged with a rugged coastline, are home to fields of tropical flowers and most of the island's population. Some aspects of Tahiti are quite modern, such as its unique entertainment events, animated nightlife, and museums. Papeete, translated as the "water basket", was once a gathering place where Tahitians came to fill their calabashes with fresh water. Now the invigorating capital city and gateway of the country, it boasts world-class resorts and spas, fine dining, nightclubs, vibrant markets, pearl shops and boutiques. Your options in Tahiti are as broad as your imagination, whether it is natural, nautical, or cultural. Pira'e Papeete 4 Papenoo Arue 1 Faa'a Mahaena 3 Mt. Orohena Puna'auia Hitiaa Mt. Tahuotira Mt. The inter-island transportation is reasonably priced and punctual. Book your Tahiti transportation with Travel Impressions, and you'll be on your way. When you arrive in Papeete, you'll receive a fresh flower lei greeting from a Tahiti Tours representative. Your greeter will present you with your full itinerary, answer any questions you may have, and transfer you to your hotel. If you prefer, private transfers are also available. Air Tahiti (a separate airline from Air Tahiti Nui, the international carrier) offers several inter-island flights every day between Papeete and Bora Bora, Moorea, Huahine, Taha'a, and Raiatea. There is a baggage weight limit of 42 pounds per passenger, plus a hand luggage limit of 7 pounds per passenger. Divers can take an additional 11 pounds when they present their diving ID cards at the airport. 40 Tahiti/Papeete If traveling by water is more your style, there are also high-speed ferries that sail throughout the day between Tahiti and Moorea. Tour the Islands Perhaps the best way to experience Tahiti is by venturing out and driving coastal roads along beautiful lagoons, passing through small villages and discovering the island interiors. Guided tours operated by Tahiti Tours offer you a variety of excursions to explore the natural surroundings of Tahiti, experience a Tahitian feast, go on a snorkeling safari, take a relaxing lagoon cruise, picnic, and more. If during your vacation you decide to take additional tours, your Tahiti Tours greeter can make the arrangements.
