Mild cases of kennel cough can be treated with herbs to increase the immune system and fight infection. If you think your dog has kennel cough and you have multiple dogs in your household, it is a good idea to separate the infected dog. You can then treat all the dogs in the house with immune boosting herbs to ensure everyone is as healthy as possible. It is also important to sanitise everything that the dogs have been in contact with because this is such a contagious disease. Wash all clothing and disinfect shoes as you can still carry the organisms on your clothing. Of course any bedding should also be washed and disinfect any toys as these will also carry bugs. Mild cases of kennel cough can be treated with herbs to increase the immune system and fight infection. Echinacea and ginseng are great herbs to use for this. If it is just a mild bacterial case of infection, you may be able to treat at home but if it is more serious and both bacterial and viral, you may need antibiotics and a cough suppressant can also be ordered. It is not likely that your dog would be hospitalized with kennel cough unless the condition was serious enough to require more intense treatment such as IV therapy. If you are looking for a natural remedy for kennel cough, then don't forget that nature has a lot of potential healers in her medicine chest and may help your dog easily get over kennel cough.
