GIRL POWER
BUSINESS
IN BRIEF
Madame Tussauds
A strong, forward-thinking and business-minded woman lies
behind the creation of Madame Tussuads wax museums. With
eight locations world-wide, this name has been recognised for
more than 200 years. Born in France in 1761, Marie Grosholtz
learnt her wax-modelling skills from a doctor who also made
life-size wax figures. The doctor opened a museum in 1770
exhibiting his life-size models which became very popular. Marie
went on her own art journey before returning to the museum
and inheriting the exhibition after the doctor passed away in
1794. Marie married Francios Tussaud in 1795, she left France
in 1802 and moved to England without her husband. Her two
sons joined her and she never returned to Paris or ever saw
her husband again. Madame Tussaud toured every major city
in Britain with her collection for 33 years. In 1835, she setup
a site in London not far from where the current exhibition
lies on Baker Street. Her last piece of work was a self-portrait
which she did eight years before she died at the age of 89. Her
two sons and grandchildren continued the business and today
the Merlin Entertainments Group operate the attraction with
locations in London, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, New
York, Shanghai, Washington D.C. and Berlin.

THINK LIKE A Woman
Women work a little harder, they are more loyal and stick
with things a lot longer! These are comments from one
male boss in the US workplace where they are predicting
a trend in women becoming the majority in the workplace.
Men are being encouraged to try think like a woman - not
act like a woman but think like one. This is because women
are succeeding more in the workplace than men. Four out
of five jobs lost in the US current recession belong to men;
it is now being named the 'he-cession'!

WOMEN ON THE RISE!
Women use social media more than men, represent more
advertising inventory, more content creation and have
more engagement overall. Media is a 'new currency' in
today's digital world. It may be the first time technological
innovation has aligned the marketplace with female norms.
Here are three tips for how women in business can utilise
their inner girl to achieve success:
1. Be your own media engine – work from the ground up
and generate your own media presence. Women already
know how to function as small media engines as they
actively participate in social media. All you need is the
internet and you're away!
2. Collaborate to grow your audience – view organisations
and people that have similar values as friends instead of
competition. Offer your hand and suggest you help each
other, come together to make things work. The modern
economy is driven by social media, it is important that we
collaborate as women instead of conquer like men.
3. Ask for help – one of man's biggest weaknesses is asking
for help. They see it as a weakness but we women should
see it as a strength. Be independent, bold and ambitious
but also understand that you can't do everything on your
own and you don't have all the answers.
