Moving experience
Whether you're tackling off-road conditions with your mates
or driving the family to weekend sports, a people mover could
be just the ticket. David Gilchrist looks at the options.
The idea
of being able to move the
whole family across the suburbs – drop one
kid off at soccer, take another to school and,
finally, take the rest to work – has driven
the demand for people movers for decades.
Whether you're doing the morning run or
you've finally got around to touring with half
a dozen mates on that much-talked-about
road trip, a people mover might be just the
ticket, but which one?
At home on the highway
According to the people at Toyota, the
name Tarago comes from an Aboriginal
word meaning 'my house'. Now, there's
the truth of it. When I climbed aboard
the Tarago Ultima, my first impression was
that easy, comfortable feeling normally
associated with being at home.
The Tarago Ultima certainly looks
smooth and has room enough for seven
people to ride in comfort to the gymkhana,
the eisteddfod, the college, the country
race meeting … and it does so without
producing the feeling that everyone has
to be freeze-dried and folded to fit in.
